Why are Ecover dishwasher tablets individually wrapped?

Dishwasher tablets don’t react well to the moisture in the air. In fact, it causes them to crumble. We want you to open your box to find tablets, not powder, so we wrap each tablet.

You've probably already seen soluble plastic packaging in other tablets, and you wonder why we do not use these? Unfortunately, this type of plastic (PVA - polyvinyl alcohol) is soluble but not biodegradable. This means that it breaks down into smaller parts, but leaves molecules that linger in the environment and can accumulate there.

The packages of our dishwasher tablets are made of polypropylene (PP), a simple, stable and non-toxic plastic. Each pack weighs only 0.3 grams. We know that the best choice would be a packing of biologically plastic, but at present this material is simply not stable or durable enough to use it for this purpose. Once a choice is available, you can rest assured that we switch!

Although the wrappers can be recycled,  its best to check with your local recycling centre to establish the facilities they have available.
